How to Get a Driver’s Licence in Alberta

Accessibility in the city with buses can be time-consuming and expensive with taxis, and constantly asking for rides isn’t sustainable. Thinking about becoming self-reliant? Ready to get a driver’s licence in Alberta? This guide covers everything you need to know.

Alberta’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program is a three-stage process designed to ensure new drivers develop the skills and experience needed to drive safely. In a province as stunning as Alberta, having your own vehicle means the freedom to explore the Rockies, visit neighbouring provinces, and enjoy greater independence — it’s both fun and practical.

Whether you’re a new driver in Calgary, a teen starting out in Airdrie, or converting an international driver’s licence, iDrive Alberta is here to help. As the best driving school in Calgary and Airdrie, we provide expert guidance, professional instruction, and practical training to help you succeed.
